Fair Trade Markets in Manly, Sydney: 6 December
The second Manly Fair Trade Markets in 2008 will be held on Saturday, 6 December - just in time for your Christmas shopping! A relaxing ferry ride across the harbour landed me in Manly at the markets in August this year. They were really well attended, and in a perfect position to capture many people coming off the ferry for a visit to this tourist destination – and now NSW’s first Fair Trade Community. With a lunch time Fair Trade Fashion Show featuring Manly Life Savers at this upcoming event, I expect that there will be many people stopping by.
The December markets is shaping up to be a great one. There will many stallholders offering a wide range of fair trade products, including soulful entrepreneurs featured on Soul Economy. Stallholders include Alter Eco Pacific, Andino Designs, Bercat, Carpets for Communities, Cocolo, Ethica, East Timorese Women Australia (ETWA), Fabric of Life, Fair Trade Exchange, Freeset Bags, Generation Wonder, Global Conduct, Grasshopper’s Jumpers, Lao Silk & Craft, Mayan Coffee, Mgeni, Mighty Eve, My Fair Ladybird, Nui International, Nuturing Threads, Pashom, Rani Home & Gifts, Republica Coffee, Rise Up, Serendib Craftlink, The Enlightened Elephant, The Hamper Hut, The Trading Circle, Trevillian & Trevillian, Warp & WEFT, Well Connected Travel, Women for Education, Freedom, Textiles (WEFT), Women’s Woven Art, Fair Trade charities attending will include Fairwear, World Vision “Don’t Trade Lives” and Oxfam.
And with Christmas only weeks away, it is a great opportunity to pick up some great gifts – gifts that also ensure that the people making them are being paid a fair wage as well as helping their communities implement much needed development projects.
While there, enjoy music and entertainment. There will be children’s activities as well as delicious fair trade chocolate and coffee. So go along and have fun!
