Bholu
www.bholu.com
The philosophy behind Bholu is very much about supporting traditional Gujarati women artisans from the remote desert communities of Kutchchh, in Western Gujarat, India and their craft with fair trade, and the work allowing them to have financial support and independence.
Bholu products are designed in Australia. Each piece is hand embroidered by traditional Gujarati women artisans using traditional techniques, giving each product its own unique and original personality. The designs are simple, textural and bold and are designed for contemporary interiors and modern day living.
The product range includes cushions, throws and journals all made from felt with silk and hand embroidery stitching. The children’s range includes felt toys and cotton bed linen with hand embroidery.
How They Give Back
The owner, Australian designer Jodie Fried, has firm morals behind the business and keeping the traditional craft alive - the idea of fusing contemporary design but having it rendered by a traditional hand.
Bholu is a proudly a Fair Trade and Carbon Neutral company and operates to the 10 standards of Fair Trade. In addition, part of the proceeds from Bholu projects go back to the women and their communities, along with funding education facilities for underprivileged children.
The children’s range of products is particularly special as the designs come from drawings by young children from underprivileged slum communities. Bholu conduct workshops in these communities to give children a time to draw, create and have fun instead of work.

Sankofa
www.sankofa.com.au
Sankofa is a retail and on-line store specialising in quality, handcrafted fair trade products from Africa.
Sankofa is a mythical West African bird that symbolises the importance of learning from the past in moving to the future. This symbol is at the very heart of Sankofa the business, as we source products that respect traditional handicraft techniques in the creation of designs for the future.
You will find products made using traditional skills that have remained unchanged for hundreds of years and are passed down from generation to generation. We have products made using the lost wax brass process, bronze, recycled glass beads, kente weaving, batiking, Tuareg leather work, mudcloth and much more. While the techniques haven't changed, our skilled artisans use them to create beautiful products for today's socially conscious shopper.
We sell textiles, baskets, jewellery, homewares and accessories, children's clothing and toys, as well as fair trade coffee, tea and chocolate – there's something for everyone.
